Capoeira Besouro is Santa Monica’s premier school for Capoeira, dance, and martial arts. Whether you're 3 years old or an adult, our classes are designed to inspire, engage, and empower students of all ages. From energetic toddler sessions to vibrant kids' classes and empowering adult lessons, we have something for everyone.
We also offer studio rentals, private lessons, and small group sessions to cater to your individual needs.
Capoeira, born from the resilience of enslaved Brazilians in the 17th century, is a dynamic blend of self-defense, dance, and music — a tradition we proudly continue today.
About Mestre Batata
Mestre Batata, the owner and head instructor at Capoeira Besouro, arrived in Los Angeles in 2002, bringing the spirit of Capoeira to the city. He has been dedicated to teaching here ever since, while also sharing his expertise worldwide through workshops and seminars.
Mestre Batata embraces a contemporary style of Capoeira, uniting students from diverse backgrounds—be it Angola or Regional Capoeira. Unlike some schools that stick to one tradition, Mestre Batata blends the philosophies of both styles, offering a modern approach.
Mestre Batata’s mission is to equip his students with the essence of traditional Capoeira while nurturing their ability to adapt to any roda they encounter.
